The nose layers ripe black cherry, blackberry and plum with hints of violet, dried herbs, cedar and a discreet tobacco lift. The palate is concentrated yet measured, carried by silky but authoritative tannins and a well-threaded line of acidity that drives a long, graphite-tinged finish. Extended maturation in barrel, vat and bottle adds complexity without heaviness, allowing the fruit to shine against subtle oak spice. The 2012 growing season yielded healthy grapes with intense color and ripe tannins, which translate here into power balanced by freshness. Decant for aromatic clarity and serve in large stems.
