Oxer Bastegieta Matalaz 2023

What’s in a Name: Matalaz was a priest who led a popular revolt of the people against the nobility, in favor of the interests of the peasants, but who failed in his fight against the French army. He was beheaded and his head hung at the entrance of the city as a lesson to the people.

Varieties: 90% Tinta de Toro and 10% Malvasia

Production: 7.000 bottles of 0,75 cl (this year it´s a test)

Vineyard
Old vineyards in the Villabuena del Puente area on sandy soils with a large amount of quartz, very poor with very low yields per hectare.

Winemaking
Fermentation with autochthonous yeasts in 1,000L vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in used 500L French oak barrels. Subsequent aging for 7 months in 600L barrels for various uses.
